Description
The former British School is a tall, gabled building designed in a simple Tudor style. It is constructed of rough-dressed, snecked limestone, with weathered stone dressings around the openings, though most of these are now covered with render. The building features slate roofs with simple, renewed bargeboards on the main gables and plain end chimneys.
The elevations are three stories high, with the side facing the lane being symmetrical. This facade has a central entrance that includes recessed 20th-century double doors and a 2-pane overlight. On either side of the entrance are cross windows, with two 3-light mullioned and transomed wooden windows on each of the upper floors. Each window is topped with a limestone relieving arch featuring dressed voussoirs and has wooden quarry glazing bars with upper tilting casement sections.
The south elevation also has similar windows and includes stone-coped gables above the upper windows, with the central gable featuring a plain end chimney. There are raised string-courses between the floors that return onto the sides of the building. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
