Description

The Old School House and attached village hall is a building that dates from around 1840. Originally a school and school house, it is now used as a house and village hall. The structure is built from coursed and squared rubble with a plain tile roof and features ashlar and rendered brick stacks. It is designed in a Tudor style and has an L-plan layout.

The building is single storey with a roadside elevation that has three bays. The left side projects slightly under a front-facing gable, which has a three-light stone-mullioned and transomed window with a label. Above this window, in the gable face, is a three-pane wood and iron casement set in a reveal, topped with a wooden finial. The right side has two bays featuring two-light stone-mullioned windows with labels and iron casements, three of which have diamond-paned leading.

There is a door opening located between these windows, framed by a chamfered stone surround with a three-centred head. The door is a plank door beneath a gabled porch, which has a moulded four-control head outer door opening with a label and a gable topped with a wooden finial. The other elevations conform to this style.

At the rear, there is a 20th-century concrete block lean-to with an asbestos-sheeting roof, which is not of special interest and is therefore not included in the listing.
