Description

ARNE SY 98 NE 7/1 Middlebere Farm House II Detached farmhouse. C17, possibly originally a long-house. Rubble stone walls, thatched roof, one brick end stack and one backing on to cross-passage. One storey and attic. 3-room and cross-passage plan. Cross-passage and lower room rebuilt in brick on stone base, possibly replacing former byre. Ledged door into passage. Ground floor has 2 casement windows with glazing bars and one C20 metal window. Attic has three 1/2-dormers with casements with glazing bars. Attached stable range on south, of stone, appears reduced in height. C19 attached cottage on north, has plastered brick walls and slate roof. One storey and attic. Ledged door. Ground floor has 2 casement windows with glazing bars. Attic has 2 gabled dormers with similar casements. Plank and muntin partition between hall and parlour. Some chamfered ceiling beams. Large open fireplaces in hall and parlour, part built up. RCHM Monument 3 (Dorset Vol II)
