Description

SZ 08 SW LANGTON MATRAVERS -

3/3 Knitson Farm House 20-11-59 GV II

Detached farmhouse. C17 - rear wing added in C18. Rubble stone walls, stone slate roof, stone stacks on ridge. T-shaped plan with C20 extension at west end. One storey and attic. Glazed door in former outhouse - (now part of house) at left end. Ground floor has 2 casement windows with glazing bars. Attic has one hipped dormer with similar casements. Rear wing, also of one storey and attic, heavily buttressed. C20 extension has stone walls and concrete tiled roof. Internally, original house has large open fireplace with remains of bread oven and curing chamber. Roof timbers reputedly smoke-blackened. RCHM Monument 8. (Dorset Vol. II).
