Description
Dairy Cottage and barns at Godlingston Manor were built in 1875 after a fire in 1871 destroyed the earlier farm buildings and damaged the Manor House. The buildings are arranged in an E-plan, with the southern (front) sections of the arms made of stone walls and the rear sections constructed of brick. They feature steeply pitched slate roofs with half-hips. The front part of the western arm of the E includes a cottage, while the remaining structures consist of barns, stables, and other facilities. Most of the buildings are two-storeys, although some sections also have attics, and the cottage is one-storey with attics. The cottage has a central doorway with a gabled porch supported by timber brackets and casement windows, along with a central dormer featuring a pitched roof. The barns have ledged doors and some stone mullioned windows. Despite some later alterations and additions, this site remains an interesting example of a late Victorian "model" farm layout in a simple Gothic style.
