Description
The Parish Church of St Nicholas is an Anglican parish church located in Arne Village. It dates back to the 13th century and remains largely unaltered. The church features ironstone walls and tiled roofs, with lower courses made of stone slates and a coped gable on the porch. The nave and chancel are combined without a structural division, and there is a south porch. A belfry is formed in the western bay of the nave roof, with no external projection.
The south wall contains two 13th-century lancet windows, while the east window is a triple lancet. The north wall has two 13th-century lancet windows and one square-headed window, along with a 14th-century two-light window in the south wall. There is a blocked doorway in the north wall of the chancel. Inside, the church has a simple tie and collar-beam roof, which is plastered below the common rafters. A 14th-century font is present, although its stonework appears to have been re-cut. Most of the furnishings are from the 19th century. Additionally, there are remains of a medieval wall painting over the door, featuring a simple floral pattern.
