Description

Burleaze Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th century and later. It is constructed of local stone rubble, mostly rendered, with some ashlar dressings, and features a hipped thatched roof along with brick end and intermediate chimney stacks. The building has a 'T'-plan layout, is two storeys high, and consists of five bays.

The upper storey has a variety of leaded casement windows with three, two, three, four, and four lights, which include rectangular panes and iron-framed opening lights. The fourth upper bay has a hollow-chamfer mullioned frame. The lower storey features similar windows in bays one and three, while bays four and five have 20th-century casements. In the second lower bay, there is an open rendered porch topped with a double Roman clay tiled roof.

To the west, there is an unrendered farm building extension that includes a stable door and one casement window below, as well as a loft door above, with an additional lean-to against the west gable. The rear of the house has a long extension with a corrugated iron sheet roof. The rear elevation features similar casements, but on the ground floor, there is one three-light hollow-chamfer mullioned window set in a chamfered recess with a label. Additionally, there are two lean-to buildings, one with a Welsh slate roof and the other with triple-roll clay tiles.

The interior has not been seen, but it is reported to include chamfered cross-beams with step and run-out stops, possible old fireplaces in the hall and east gable, a post and truss partition with wattle rod and daub infill, and tie-beam trusses. A lease from 1696 exists, and the farm was part of the Wyndham Estate until 1919.
