Description
Cocks Bridge is a road bridge over a river, dated 1834. It was designed by Richard Carver, the County Architect and Surveyor, and built by R. Mears. The bridge is constructed from cut and squared Lias stone with Ham stone dressings. It features a segmental arch with ashlar voussoirs that spans nearly 10 meters, and a vermiculated keystone. There is a band course at road level and a shallow flat-topped parapet with plain chunky coping. On the west parapet, a full depth stone is inscribed with the date 1834. The ends of the parapet curl at right angles to rectangular stop piers. This bridge, along with Twinney Bridge, was built for a cost of 375 pounds sterling.
