Description

Merryfield House is a large detached house that was formerly the vicarage, built in the late 19th century. It is constructed from stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features Welsh slate roofs with saw-tooth ridges and coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks. The house has an H-plan layout and consists of two storeys with attics, arranged in six bays.

The exterior includes a plinth and string courses, with chamfer-mullioned windows; the lower windows have transoms. In the first bay, there are three single-light windows below, a four-light window on the first floor, and slit windows in the gable of the north crosswing. The second bay features a six-light window below and an eight-light window above. The third bay has a projecting single-storey porch with corner buttresses and a pointed arched doorway. The fourth bay has five-light windows on both main floors, with a slit window in the attic gable. The fifth bay is slightly set back, with a two-light window above and a three-light window below. The sixth bay is the forward projection of the south crosswing, which has no window below, a transomed four-light window on the first floor, and a two-light attic window. There is an additional doorway in the north gable.

The interior has not been seen. Merryfield House has important group value with the Church of St. Peter and is significant in the streetscape.
