Description
This is a detached cottage, likely dating from the 18th century, although it incorporates earlier fragments. It is constructed of local stone rubble with dressings in Ham stone. The roof is thatched, with plain gables, and there are brick chimney stacks at the ends and between the bays. The cottage has two storeys and four bays. The windows are casements of an early design, mostly with rectangular leaded lights. The first-floor windows are 2-light in bay 1, 3-light in the remaining first-floor windows and lower bay 2, and 1-light in the lower bays 3 and 4. The lower windows have timber lintols. Buttresses with offsets, likely added in the 19th century, are located to the left of bay 1 and between each bay. A recessed doorway with a keystoned elliptical arch and a plain boarded door with a glazed panel is located between bays 3 and 4. Further matching windows are in the gables. A lower extension to the rear has a double Roman clay tiled roof. The interior was not inspected. A low wall capped with a spearpoint railing, with arch-braced standards having acorn finials and a matching gate, extends from the north-west corner of the house along the west boundary. A random stone wall continues downhill along the north boundary of the site, all contributing to the setting of the house.
