Description
Thatchwell is a detached house, likely built in the 18th century, with some modifications. It is constructed from local stone rubble, with the south gable rebuilt in brick. The house features a thatched roof with plain gables and has brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. The building is two storeys high and consists of four bays. It has three-light horizontal-bar casement windows on the lower level, which have timber lintels, while the upper bays three and four have earlier pattern casements with three and two lights, respectively, featuring rectangular-leaded panes. There is a 20th-century wing wall with an arched doorway against the south-east gable, and the entrance is located at the rear. The north gable is mostly covered by a 20th-century timber and tiled lean-to, but it appears to be rendered on timber framing, suggesting it may be a remnant of a 15th or 16th-century house. The interior has not been seen.
