Description
Nos 18 and 20 Hogshill Street is an attached house and Post Office, dating from around 1800 and the mid-19th century. The building features rubble-stone and ashlar stone walls, topped with a slate roof that has stone gable-copings. There are brick stacks located at the left-hand side, the party wall, and the right-hand gables.
No 20 is two storeys high and has two windows. The ground floor includes two canted bays set on stone bases, with sash windows that have glazing bars. A heavy continuous wooden cornice, which is bracketed out at the right-hand end, adds to its character. The front door, located at the right-hand end, is wooden and features a rectangular fanlight above it.
No 18, which has been recently cut back, is also two storeys and has two windows. It features a 19th-century shop front with wooden mullions and a transom, along with moulded stone cornices. A 20th-century door is positioned at the centre and includes a large glass panel.
