Description
Nos 4 and 6 Ropergate is a house that has been partly converted into shops. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of painted brick, featuring brick and stone dressings, and has a slate roof.
It stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay elevation with a central entrance. The entrance is now divided, with No 6 on the left occupying one bay and No 4 on the right occupying two bays. The central entrance has a glazed door flanked by modern shop fronts.
On the first floor, there are three flush frame sash windows with glazing bars, while the second floor features three similar half-size six-pane sashes. All the windows are set below segmental brick arches with raised stone keys. No 6 has stone sills for its windows, while No 4 has replacement brick sills. The building has dentilled eaves and stone-coped gables, with the left gable supported by a decayed stone kneeler. There are brick end stacks, with the left stack being external.
