Description
No 1 Beast Fair is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building stands three storeys high, featuring one bay facing Beast Fair and three irregular bays on Ropergate. It is constructed of painted brick in Flemish bond and has a Welsh slate roof.
On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century shop front that is not of special interest. The first floor includes a deep sill band and sash windows with stone wedge lintels, which are incised to resemble chamfered voussoirs, complete with raised 'keystone' and an indented panel. The second floor has a similar sill band and windows as the first floor. The building is adorned with paired gutter brackets that have paterae at the ends, and it features a hipped roof at the corner.
