Description
No 4 Load Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and flats. It dates from the early 18th century, with later alterations from the late 18th century, mid-19th century, and some mid-20th century changes. The building is constructed of brick and has a tiled roof with a rear stack. It stands three storeys tall and features brick coped verges, a moulded plaster cornice, and a band at the first floor.
The façade has four windows, which are boxed 8-pane sashes set under rubbed brick heads. The second floor windows match those on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century shop front to the left with a multi-pane shop window, and to the right, a half-glazed door with an overlight. The right-hand corner has an entrance to a passage that features a moulded wooden architrave, a blind overlight with Gothick decoration, and two doors, each with six flush panels. Inside, there is an open well staircase with splat balusters.
