Description
No 5 Load Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It likely dates from the early 18th century and was refronted in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick and features a tile roof with a rear stack.
It stands three storeys tall and has a stone-coped parapet with a plain band serving as a cornice. The main part of the front is recessed and has a semi-circular head on the second floor. There are two windows on this floor: a 16-pane sash window in the recess to the left and an 8-pane sash window to the right. On the second floor, there is a 12-pane sash window to the left and a 6-pane sash window to the right. The ground floor features a shop front to the left, set in a recess, with a sign board across the top. The central entrance is flanked by multi-pane 20th-century shop windows and has a glazed door. To the right-hand corner, there is an entrance to a passage that has a moulded wooden architrave and a door made of three raised and fielded panels.
