Description
Nos 43 and 45 Pickwick is a house dated 1708 (No 45) with a later rear wing (No 43). The building is constructed of rubble stone and has stone tiled roofs. No 45 faces west and is two storeys high, featuring coped gables and end wall stacks. On the first floor, there are two former 2-light recessed cyma-moulded mullion windows with hoodmoulds, although the mullions have been removed for casements. The ground floor has two 20th-century doors, each with original hoodmoulds, set in a 20th-century glazed lean-to. The south end wall has a blocked door with "IHA 1708" inscribed on the lintel. The north end has a 2-light recessed cyma-moulded window with a hoodmould on each floor, both of which are blocked. There is also a former door in the west wall that has been converted into a window, with the hoodmould continuing over to the door of No 43, which is at right angles. No 43 is made of squared rubble and also has stone tiles. It features two upper 12-pane sash windows, a flush 6-panel door, and a tripartite sash window on the ground floor of the south front. The tripartite sash was originally designed with 4-12-4 panes, but the 12-pane section has been replaced with plate glass.
