Description

Daniel's House Antiques, formerly known as Daniel's House, is a building from the early and late 18th century located on Hogshill Street in Beaminster. The structure features lias rubble and brick side walls, topped with a slate roof that is hipped on the left side and has a stone gable coping on the right. It has two brick stacks, one positioned at the left near the hip apex and the other on the right gable. The building stands two storeys tall with attics and has three windows facing the street. There are two symmetrical canted bays made of stone on the left and right, both with stone strings and stone cills, and the windows are sashes with glazing bars. Centrally above the front door is another sash window. The front door is made of wood, featuring four panels and two glass lights, and is framed by a reeded door surround. A Greek Doric stone portico with fluted columns, dating from the 19th century, enhances the entrance.

At the rear of the house is a wing that dates back to the early 18th century. Inside, there are extensive flagstone floors. The former patient's waiting room is located at the right front, while the consulting room is at the right rear, featuring a very wide elliptical-headed recess with a reeded surround. A wooden staircase in the hall has plain balusters and round handrails, dating from the early 19th century. Attached to the right side of the main building is another structure with a lias stone wall, which is coped for ten yards along the street and has a side door made of wood with flush panels. This attached premises is one storey high, has one sash window, and features a large elliptical arch supported by Doric pilaster capitals, complete with a projecting dropped keystone.
