Description
Nos 21 and 23 on Hogshill Street are two attached shops that date from the early 19th century. They feature brick walls with a rendered plinth and a slate roof that has stone gable-coping on the right side. There is a renewed brick stack on the left side. The buildings are two storeys high with attics and have a total of four windows, which include two- and three-light wooden casements with rendered lintels and projecting keys. The doors are wooden and from the 20th century, featuring panelled reveals and a projecting keystone above. The door for No 23, which serves the newsagent, also has panelled reveals and a surround from the 20th century. At the rear, there are additional premises that extend at right angles down Shadrack Street, constructed with rubble walls and a gabled slate roof, topped with a circular brick stack above the eaves. This section has two storeys and three irregularly spaced windows.
