Description
40, 42, and 46 Hogshill Street are two cottages and a clinic, originally a shop with an attached house on the right side, dating from the early 19th century. The buildings feature ashlar stone walls and a slate roof with stone gable-coping on the right side. There are brick stacks located at the center and on the right gable. The structure is two storeys high and has six windows, with a shop front at the left-center that includes two bows with renewed canted bays and sash windows with glazing bars. A continuous moulded wood cornice connects the two bows. New stonework has been added between the bows, blocking a former doorway. The remaining windows are also sashes with glazing bars and stone cills. There are two doors: a wooden door on the left and a 19th-century door on the right, which is from the 20th century. Access to the doors is via two steps from the pavement. The clinic at number 40 features a 19th-century former shop front with a three-panel window and wooden mullions, framed by wooden pilasters and topped with a moulded cornice. The door to the left of the shop window is wooden and has two lights, dating from the 20th century.
