Description
31 Boscawen Street is a late 18th-century town house that has been converted into a shop. The building features a front made of freestone ashlar and has a natural slate hipped roof behind a parapet. It has a deep plan with the original entrance hall located on the right side and a late 19th-century shop replacing the former parlour on the left. The structure stands three storeys high and has a four-window front.
On the right, there is a round-headed doorway adorned with three-quarter fluted Doric columns, triglyphs on the entablature, and an open pediment. The doorway includes panelled reveals, a six-panel door, and a spoked fanlight. The building also features rusticated quoins, flat arches with projecting keyblocks above 19th or 20th-century horned sash windows, which have glazing bars at the top of the first-floor sashes, and a moulded parapet with a blind arcade on the frieze.
The late 19th-century shop front consists of two lights and has a doorway on the left with an overlight. It is supported by panelled terminal pilasters with consoles, a moulded cornice above the fascia, and slender turned mullions in the shop window. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
