Description
Nos. 8 and 9 Duke Street are two town houses that have been converted into shops. They date from the early 19th century and feature slate hanging on studwork at the front, with an asbestos slate roof. The buildings have a deep plan and were altered in the late 19th century during their conversion to shops. They stand three storeys high and have a two-window street front. The left side has original 16-pane hornless sash windows, while the right side has horned copies. Each shop front has a doorway on the left with plate glass. No. 8 features a sloping moulded fascia with terminal consoles above a pilaster on the right, while No. 9 has a scribed pilaster and console from the late 19th century shop front on its right and a splayed doorway on the left. The interior has not been inspected.
