Description
6 and 7 Duke Street are town houses that have been converted into two shops. They date from the 18th century and were remodeled around the early 19th century, with significant repairs made in the 20th century. The original stucco has been replaced with render, and the roof is a fairly steep asbestos slate. The buildings have a fairly deep plan, originally designed as single-depth structures with rear wings, which were likely altered in the late 19th century when they were converted to shops. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a three-window street front. On the left, No. 6 has a mid-19th century twelve-pane hornless sash window, while the other windows are horned copies. No. 6 also has a replica late 19th century corner shop with a splayed corner entrance, pilasters, and a plain fascia. No. 7 features a 20th century shop front with a similar fascia. The interior has not been inspected.
