Description
27 Coinagehall Street is a town house with a later shop, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The ground floor features rusticated granite ashlar, while the upper sections are made of Elvan ashlar with granite dressings, including flat arches with projecting keystones and rusticated quoins. The roof is a grouted scantle slate hipped design with slightly projecting eaves. The building has an irregular U-shaped plan, with rear wings at right angles, and a much deeper wing on the right. It stands three storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-window front. The upper floors retain original hornless sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor includes an early 20th-century transomed double shop front, which has a cranked splay to the central doorway and leaded top lights with a frieze of squat diamond panes. The interior of the shop has been altered in the 20th century, and while it was not inspected, it is likely to be of interest.
