Description
The garden buildings south of Lismore in Helston date back to 1839, as indicated by a datestone on the central stables, which were designed by George Wightwick. The stables are constructed from granite ashlar and feature a heavy moulded parapet cornice with the central datestone. The rest of the structure is made from killas rubble, with a corrugated asbestos hipped roof covering part of the stables. The overall plan is long and rectangular, consisting of a single-storey, two-window range flanked by two-storey, two-window ranges. The central section includes an original 16-pane hornless sash window and a central doorway, which was boarded up at the time of the survey. The building on the right has an original 16-pane sash above a 20th-century window on the left and a mid-floor 20th-century window on the right. The other block features repaired original leaded casements with pointed-arched lights. The interior retains the original floor and roof structure in the left-hand part, while the central section has been altered and was not inspected further. Lismore and its gardens, located in the heart of Helston, significantly enhance the town's landscape.
