Description
27A and 27B on Boscawen Street is a town house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the early 19th century and features a front made of stucco on studwork, topped with a natural slate roof that has deep eaves. There is a large stuccoed chimney located to the left of the center. The building has been altered to accommodate the shops and stands four storeys tall with a three-window front.
The first floor has late 19th-century canted bay windows, while the second floor retains its original openings, which are adorned with shells under pilasters that have consoles, as well as alternating triangular and segmental pediments. The third floor features a sill string and original openings with pilasters, consoles, and moulded hoods, all fitted with hornless sashes. The eaves are supported by widely spaced brackets. The ground floor has two 20th-century shop fronts beneath the sloping fascia of a late 19th-century shop front that includes terminal consoles. The interior of the ground floor has been altered in the 20th century, and the rest of the interior has not been inspected.
