Description

No. 7 Cathedral Lane is a town house that has been converted into a shop with offices. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building features brick on the ground floor and stucco on studwork above, topped with an asbestos slate hipped roof. The plan was altered in the late 19th century to create a corner shop. The building has three storeys, with a three-window front facing High Cross and a two-window front facing Cathedral Lane. It includes moulded architraves and early 19th-century hornless sashes with glazing bars, featuring 12-, 16-, and 20-pane sashes, except for an old wide fixed light on the first floor of the Cathedral Lane front. The late 19th-century double corner shop front has three elliptically-headed lights for each shop window, along with return lights into the corner doorway. It also features slender turned mullions, a glazed door with two bottom panels, an overlight, and a moulded entablature above a squat fascia. The interior has not been inspected.
