Description
No. 1 Old Bridge Street is a late 18th-century town house located in Truro. The front is made of red brick laid in Flemish bond, with a granite plinth and quoins, while the rest of the building is constructed from rubble. It has a dry Delabole slate hipped roof with projecting eaves and brick end stacks. The house has an L-shaped plan, featuring two rooms on either side of a central entrance hall at the front, with a short wing extending from the right side.
The building stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. The central doorway is framed by a moulded architrave and features a wooden doorcase with a flat hood supported by consoles, leading to a six-panel door. There are blind openings above the doorway, and the windows are early 19th-century hornless sashes with narrower margin panes, set under shallow segmental arches. The eaves cornice is modillioned. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to retain many original features. This house is noted for its unusual exposed brick facade in the city.
