Description
Shute Cottage and the adjoining cottage to the right are a pair of cottages built around the mid-19th century. They are constructed from stone rubble, rendered with pebbledash, and feature a slate roof with gable ends. Each cottage has a brick chimney stack located in the gable ends. The cottages are likely designed with a two-room plan; the left-hand cottage has its entrance to the left of the front, while the right-hand cottage has its entrance in the end wall.
The cottages are set on solid rock on the side of a hill and have two storeys visible from the front. The front facade has a regular arrangement of four windows. The entrance to Shute Cottage is on the left and includes an early 20th-century glazed lean-to porch. The ground floor features four 19th-century 12-pane sash windows, each with slate hoods above. The entrance to the cottage on the right is in the gable end and has an early 20th-century part-glazed porch. Above this entrance, there are four 19th-century 12-pane sash windows located in gabled half-dormers, which have timber shaped barge boards. The interior of the cottages has not been inspected. These cottages are included for their group value.
