Description

Two adjoining cottages, originally built as a single dwelling and at one time used as a public house. The core of the cottages likely dates to the 17th century, with substantial remodelling and extension occurring in the 19th century. The exterior is a mix of roughcast rendered stone rubble and cob construction, with a thatched roof featuring gable ends, with slate covering at the rear. A stone rubble stack is situated at the left gable end, while a brick stack is found at the right gable end; two further rear lateral brick stacks are incorporated into projecting outshuts.

Due to inaccessibility, the original plan and subsequent development are not fully understood. Each cottage appears to consist of a principal room on either side of a stairhall, with a single-storey rear service wing behind the left-hand room of each cottage. The left-hand cottage has a hipped thatched roof, while the right-hand cottage has a gable-ended slate roof.

The cottages, when viewed from the front, present a 6-window facade. The windows are generally sash windows with margin glazing bars, except for a smaller stone rubble sash over the left-hand porch, which features a brick quoined surround and a flat four-centred arch. The left-hand cottage has a door with three glazed upper panels and two panelled lower panels. The right-hand cottage has an early 20th-century timber-glazed lean-to porch with a four-panelled inner door, the upper two panels glazed.

The interior is not accessible.
