Description
Slipway Cottage, located on the south side of The Warren in Polperro, is likely a former fish store, net loft, or coal shed that has been converted into a cottage. The building dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of painted and rendered stone rubble with a slate roof featuring gable ends. The internal layout has been altered, and the cottage is single-depth on a steep slope, with one storey facing The Warren and two storeys facing the harbour.
The harbour side of the cottage has an asymmetrical front with five windows, featuring 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The ground floor includes four casements of one and two lights to the left of a stable-type door. Above, there are two smaller casements and three dormers with casement windows. A flight of steps on the right-hand gable end leads up to The Warren, and there is a 20th-century glazed door on the single-storey elevation facing The Warren.
The interior has not been inspected. The cottage is included for its group value, and a stone rubble slipway on the harbour side descends from a small quay between Slipway Cottage and L' Teglios Fish Cellars into the harbour. Early photographs of Polperro harbour show the cottage as a two-storey store with two openings on the first floor.
