Description
Mables Warren Cottage is a pair of cottages dating to the late 18th century, situated on the north side of Lansallos, near Polperro. The cottages are constructed of rendered stone rubble with a slate roof and have large stone rubble chimney stacks on the gable ends, with one chimney stack featuring set-offs. They are built into the side of a hill and have a symmetrical four-window front. The ground floor has two early 20th-century partly glazed four-panel doors positioned centrally, flanked by two 20th-century two-light casement windows without glazing bars. The first floor has two four-pane sash windows and two two-light casement windows. Two attic windows are set within raking roof half-dormers; the left window is a 20th-century two-light casement without glazing bars, while the right is a 19th-century two-light casement with glazing. The interior of the cottages has not been inspected. They are included on the list for their group value and historic interest; Jonathan Couch was born in Warren Cottage in 1789. A photograph taken in the 1880s shows a fishing fleet in the harbour with Warren Cottage and Mables in the background.
