Description
Gull Cottage is a house with a former stable or fish store on the ground floor, dating from around the mid-18th century. It is situated on the north side of The Warren, near Polperro. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble, topped with a slate roof and gabled ends. A large stone rubble chimney stands on the left-hand gable. Built into a hillside, the main entrance is above a basement level. Originally comprising two rooms over a cellar, the house has an entrance to the left of the front, accessed by a flight of 11 stone rubble and slate steps with a rendered retaining wall. A projecting right-hand room extends forward over the cellar doorway.
The house is two storeys high with a basement. The front is picturesque and asymmetrical. The basement on the right has a six-pane window, and the basement door, with a partially glazed door from the early 20th century, is located in the projecting range to the right. The first floor features a recessed entrance to the left, set back from adjacent properties and approached by the steps. There is a six-pane sash window near the centre and another six-pane sash in the projection. The attic has a six-pane sash window beneath a raking dormer on the left. The projecting range to the right may have been raised at a later date and also has a six-pane sash window. The interior has not been inspected.
