Description
Harbour Studio is a building that was originally two cottages, now combined into one. It likely dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of painted rendered and plastered stone rubble, with some parts possibly being timber frame. The building has a slate roof with gable ends, and the left-hand range has a slightly lower roof. A brick chimney stack is located between the two ranges.
The studio is built into the side of a hill, featuring a single-storey elevation facing The Warren and a two-storey elevation towards the Harbour. The front wall originally rose from the stone rubble harbour walls. The harbour side consists of two ranges. The right-hand range has an asymmetrical front with three windows; the first floor jetties out over the ground floor, which has two 20th-century two-light casements and a 20th-century door in a porch on the right. The first floor has a 20th-century double two-light casement on the left and two 19th-century two-light casements on the right, all with glazing bars.
The left-hand range has a symmetrical two-window front with 20th-century two-light casements in openings that have been extended at the base. There is one opening in the centre on the ground floor and two above. The elevation facing The Warren features 20th-century window openings. The interior has not been inspected.
A 20th-century balcony has been added on the harbour side, cantilevered out on the ground floor with metal railings. A photograph from the turn of the 19th century shows Harbour Studio with a simple, regular two-storey elevation towards the harbour. The right-hand range had no window openings on the ground floor and two regular two-light casements in the jettied first floor, while the left-hand range's fenestration pattern remains largely unaltered. The building is included for its group value.
