Description

The Cot is a late 18th-century terraced cottage located on the north side of The Warren, near Polperro. Built into a hillside on solid rock, it has a 3-storey, asymmetrical 2-window front overlooking the harbour. The cottage is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble, with a slate roof and gable ends. A rendered brick chimney stack stands on the left-hand gable. It was originally built with a 1-room plan, and features an entrance on the right-hand side. The windows are largely from the 19th century. The ground floor has a 6-pane sash window with a brick segmental arch. A stone rubble porch with a slate lean-to roof is located to the right of the door, which is a 20th-century replacement. Above this is a 6-pane sash window also with a brick segmental arch, and a rectangular 20th-century window to the right. A 6-pane sash window is placed on the second floor above those on the lower floors. The cottage retains a largely unaltered appearance and is considered the most original house in a terrace of four. The interior has not been inspected. It is included in the listing for group value.
