Description
Jews House is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble, topped with a cement-washed rag slate roof that has hipped ends. An early crested ridge tile is present on the porch. The house features a painted brick front lateral chimney stack that serves the accommodation on the first floor.
The layout consists of a two-room plan on the first floor, with external steps leading to the entrance porch. On the ground floor, there is a store with a single room on either side of a central through passage that leads to a small courtyard, which is enclosed by the adjoining buildings Shalom and Pendennis, as well as later shop premises. The front elevation is two storeys high with a two-window range. The ground floor includes a brick segmental arched passage entrance directly beneath the front lateral chimney stack.
On the left-hand side, there is a stone rubble flight of steps with a renewed parapet leading up to a small porch beneath the hipped rag slate roof. The porch features a 20th-century two-light casement window and a part-glazed entrance door. To the right of the front lateral chimney stack, there is another two-light casement window beneath a raking roof dormer. Inside, the ground floor has a passage leading to the courtyard, with chamfered ceiling beams, and the entrance to the store is on the right. The first floor has been modernised, and the elevations are especially picturesque.
