Description
The Court and Cottage adjoining to the east is a house that has been converted into two cottages, dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of painted and rendered stone rubble with a slate roof featuring gabled ends. There is a stone rubble chimney stack on the left-hand gable end. Originally, it likely had a two-room and cross passage layout, but it has since been divided into two one-room cottages, each with its own entrance on either side of Mermaid Cottage, which is a later addition to the front.
The building is three storeys high and has a regular three-window front. The cottage on the left is accessed by a flight of steps leading up to an entrance that features a part-glazed door with a slate hood. Above this entrance is a 20th-century two-light casement window with glazing bars. To the right is the three-storey elevation of The Court, which has a four-panelled door that is partly glazed and sits beneath a timber lintel with a slate hood. The first and second floors have two-light casement windows without glazing bars.
The interior of the building is not accessible. It is reputed by Jonathan Couch to be one of the oldest houses in Polperro, as noted in his work, "The History of Polperro," published in 1871.
