Description

Badharlick Cottage is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, with part of the left gable end covered in slate. The roof is made of bitumen-coated rag slate and features gable ends. There are brick chimney stacks at both ends, with the left stack having a cloam oven projection.

The house is built on a slope, with the ground rising to the left. It has a two-room layout with a through passage, where the room on the right is slightly larger. Both rooms are heated by the end stacks. There is a 18th or 19th-century outshut at the rear. The interior was altered in the 20th century when the partition on the left side of the passage was moved, and a staircase was added on the left side of the passage.

The exterior is two storeys high and features an almost symmetrical three-window front. There is a 20th-century timber gabled porch, with a 20th-century three-light casement window to the left and a 20th-century four-light casement window to the right. On the first floor, there is a 19th-century two-light casement window flanked by two 19th-century three-light casement windows.

Inside, the fireplaces have been remodeled in the 20th century. The floor joists in the left room were replaced in the 20th century with heavy unmoulded cross beams and lighter unmoulded floor joists.
