Description
The lodge at the south entrance to Penheale is a building dating from the mid-19th century, constructed of stone rubble with a regular slate roof featuring gable ends. It has a 'T' shaped plan with one room on either side of a central entrance and a third room in a centrally placed rear wing. Designed in the Tudor Gothic style, the lodge is two storeys high. The front elevation is symmetrical and single storey, featuring a central gabled integral porch with a four-centred arch and cusped bargeboards with pendant finials. On either side of the porch are 19th-century two-light casement windows. The left gable end, which faces the road, is two storeys tall and includes a canted 19th-century bay window on the ground floor, with a two-light casement above that has pointed-headed lights set in a four-centred arch. The decorated bargeboards, which are also cusped and have pendant finials, extend around the front and side elevations of the lodge. The interior has not been inspected.
