Description
Rosevale is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, with a corrugated asbestos roof that has replaced the original thatch. The roof features a gable end on the left and a hipped end on the right. There is a projecting stone rubble end stack with set offs on the left side.
The layout consists of a two-room single depth plan, with a small unheated room on the right and a central entrance that leads directly into a larger hall-kitchen on the left, which is heated by the end stack. There is a small 19th or 20th-century lean-to extension on the right and a 20th-century extension at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical two-window front with the entrance located near the centre. The entrance features a 20th-century door in a small 20th-century gabled porch, with a 20th-century replacement two-light casement window to the left and a small 20th-century window to the right. On the first floor, there are two 20th-century replacement two-light casement windows. The lean-to outshut extension is located at the right-hand end.
Inside, the floor joists were replaced in the 20th century. There is likely a 17th-century chamfered timber lintel above the fireplace, although it is partly obscured by a later timber fascia in front. The interior also features a cloam oven.
