Description
Forda Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1844 for the Bedford Estate. It is constructed of brick made on the farm, with a rendered exterior and partly hung with large rag slates. The roof is also made of rag slate and features gable ends. The overall plan is 'L' shaped, with the entrance located at the front (north) and a staircase leading to the rear of the passage. To the left is a parlour heated by an end stack, while the right cross wing contains a service room at the front, heated by an axial stack, and a kitchen at the rear, also heated by an end stack. There is a later single-storey 19th-century extension on the right side of the cross wing, which includes a pump room facing the yard to the west. The farmhouse exhibits vestigial Gothic style.
The exterior is two storeys high with a regular 1:1 window arrangement featuring complete 19th-century casements. The entrance is located at the angle of the main range and the wing to the front right. There is a 19th-century door with a 3-light casement to the left on the ground floor and a 2-light casement above. The gable end of the front wing to the right has a 3-light casement on the ground floor and a 2-light casement above. A datestone in the gable end reads 'B 1844'. The right-hand side elevation faces the yard to the west, is hung with rag slates, and features a single-storey pump house on the ground floor, with 2-light casements in the triple gable ends lighting the first floor. The interior is largely complete with original partitions and includes a large slate fireplace surround in the kitchen.
