ST EWE SW 94 NE 1/17 Higher Kestle Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse. Early - mid C19, with few later alterations. Slatestone rubble with brick dressings. The front and the left side rendered. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end stacks with rendered shafts. Plan: Double depth plan, with central entrance and principal room to front left and right, each heated from a gable end stack. Kitchen to rear left and dairies to rear right, with stair hall to rear centre. There is a narrow wing at the right side containing a bathroom. Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 3-window front. All windows are C19 16-pane sashes with cambered arches. Central C19 4-panelled door with open-fronted wooden porch with flat roof and unglazed sidelights. The right end has a 2-storey addition for a bathroom. The left end is blind. At the rear, first floor has two C19 16-pane sashes to left and one to right. Central C19 12-pane sash with margin glazing and round arch, lighting the stair. Ground floor has two C19 2-light 8-pane casements with iron stanchions to left and one C19 16-pane sash to right. All windows have cambered brick arches and brick jambs. Off centre to right is a C19 porch with hipped roof, 9-pane window at the rear and door at the left side. Interior: Not inspected but may retain good plain features of the C19.
