Description
Kestle Farmhouse is an early to mid-19th century farmhouse with few later alterations. It is constructed of slatestone rubble, with brick dressings; the front and left side are rendered. The roof is slate, with ridge tiles and gable ends. Brick gable end stacks are present. The building has a double-depth plan, incorporating a central entrance and principal rooms to the front left and right, each heated by a gable end stack. A kitchen sits to the rear right, a dairy to the rear left, and a stair hall to the rear centre. The symmetrical front has a three-window arrangement, with 19th century 16-pane sash windows beneath cambered arches. A central 20th century glazed door is protected by a flat hood on wooden posts. A small, single-storey privy is attached to the right end, with a 20th century window at ground floor level to the right. The left end is currently blind. The rear of the property has two 19th century 16-pane sashes to the left at first floor level and one to the right; a 19th century 14-pane sash illuminates the stair hall. A 19th century 16-pane sash is located at ground floor to the rear right, alongside a porch with a hipped roof, a 6-pane window to the rear, and a 19th century stable-type plank door to the left side. A 19th century 2-light 8-pane casement with iron stanchions is present to the left, along with a 20th century multipane window. All openings are framed by cambered brick arches. The interior has not been inspected but may retain good, plain 19th century features.
