Description

The Scobell Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about one metre north of the north transept of the Church of All Saints. It dates from the 18th century and is made of granite ashlar. The tomb is rectangular and sits on a plinth, featuring a flat top with a moulded edge. It has a rebated slate inscription tablet that has an incised rounded head, adorned with two skulls at the top and crossed bones at the base. The lettering is well-executed, and there is a shield of arms. The monument commemorates Francis Scobell Esq, who died in 1740.
