Description
Nos. 1 and 2 St Ewe are a pair of attached houses built in the mid to late 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. They are constructed from slatestone rubble with brick dressings and feature an asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. There is an axial stack with a brick shaft and an additional stack at the right gable end, also with a brick shaft.
Each house has a one-room plan, with entrances located at the outer ends of the front and the rooms positioned towards the center, heated by back-to-back fireplaces from the axial stack. The right end stack heats a first-floor room above a through corridor. Shallow service rooms are located at the rear. No. 1 is on the left and No. 2 is on the right.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical four-window front. The first floor has two windows on the left and two on the right, all of which are 19th-century 12-pane sashes with cambered brick arches. The ground floor features 20th-century half-glazed doors on the left and right, with two 19th-century 12-pane sashes in between, all also with cambered brick arches. There is a doorway to the corridor at the right end, which has a plank door and a segmental brick arch. The right end of the building abuts the adjoining house, while the left end is blind. The interior has not been inspected.
