Description

Lanherne Barton Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse with mid-19th-century alterations and a few later changes. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with brick and stone dressings, topped by a hipped slate roof with ridge tiles. The building features a double depth plan with a central entrance, and the main rooms are located to the front left and right, each heated by a side stack. There is a room at the rear right, also heated from a side stack, and a rear service wing with a one-room plan to the left, heated from an end stack.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. All windows are 19th-century four-pane sashes set beneath brick segmental arches and brick jambs. A gabled corrugated asbestos porch supported by wooden posts leads to a two-panelled door. The left side features three early 18th-century 24-pane sashes at the first floor in exposed boxes, characterized by thick glazing bars and brick segmental arches. The ground floor has two 2-light 10-pane casements to the left and a four-pane sash to the right, all with brick segmental arches.

On the right side, there is a 2-light 6-pane casement for the cellar and a single-storey rubble shed attached to the left. The left side is at a lower ground floor level to accommodate the cellar. At the rear, the service wing has a blind end, while the main range has a 19th-century sash with margin glazing lighting the stair to the right. The ground floor features an early 18th-century 16-pane light with thick glazing bars to the left, and an early 18th-century 24-pane sash with thick glazing bars in an exposed box on the first floor to the left. There is a blocked cellar door with a relieving arch to the left, and the inner side of the wing has a 20th-century lean-to porch with a plank door. The interior has not been inspected.
