Description
Tinnel Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse with few later alterations. It is constructed of slatestone rubble, with some areas slate-hung and others rendered. The roof is made of slurried slate, featuring ridge tiles and gable ends, with gable end stacks that have brick shafts. The layout includes a central entrance leading to a double-depth plan, with principal rooms on the front left and right, and a kitchen at the rear left. There is a single-storey heated integral outshut attached to the right side and a single-storey unheated addition to the left, which was likely originally a dairy.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front, with the upper level being slate-hung. On the ground and first floors to the left and right are 19th-century 12-pane sash windows with sidelights, while the first floor has a central 12-pane sash. A central gabled porch features a half-glazed 20th-century door. The left side is rendered and includes a single attic light, while the single-storey addition on the left has a flat roof and a 20th-century window at the front. The right side also has a single attic light, and the integral outshut on this side has a two-light three-pane casement window at the front, along with a door and a stack with a brick shaft. The rear of the outshut features a three-light three-pane casement with L hinges. At the rear, the ground floor left has a 12-pane sash with sidelights, while the first floor left has a 20th-century window. On the first floor to the right is a 20-pane sash, with a central rendered 20th-century porch. The rear of the addition to the right has a two-light six-pane casement with iron stanchions, indicating it was likely a dairy that has been rebuilt with a flat roof. The interior has not been inspected but likely retains original joinery.
