Description

Quay Cottage at Pentillie Quay is an estate house dated 1854, with a few later alterations. It is constructed of snecked slatestone rubble with granite dressings and features slate roofs adorned with crested ridge tiles and gable ends with bargeboards. The building has an axial stack with a brick shaft.

The plan is T-shaped, with the entrance located on the outer side of the left-hand crosswing, which contains a room at the front and a stair hall behind. The right range has one heated room and a small unheated room at the right end.

The cottage is two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical front with three bays in the right range and a cross wing projecting from the front left. The main range features a central canted bay with casement windows and the datestone above, flanked by 2-light chamfered granite casements. The first floor has two 2-light chamfered granite casements set in gabled dormers with bargeboards.

The left wing has a canted bay at ground floor with casements, and a 2-light chamfered granite casement at first floor with a hood mould and breather above. The left side includes a flat-roofed porch with a blocking course to the right, a re-used 3-centred arched chamfered granite doorway with a studded Gothic door, and a first-floor 2-light chamfered granite casement with a hood mould. There is also a single light in a chamfered granite surround to the left, providing light to the stair. The right side features a door leading to a lean-to and a 2-light chamfered granite casement at the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
