Description
Keeper's Cottage, located south west of Pentillie Quay, is a pair of attached estate houses that have been converted into one residence. Built around 1850, the cottage features some later alterations. It is constructed from snecked Devon limestone rubble with stone dressings and has a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, including a gable end stack on the left and an axial stack.
The layout consists of two attached one-room plan houses. The house on the left has a porch and a room heated by the gable end stack, while the house on the right has its main room in a projection to the right of centre, with a door to the right and heating from the axial stack. Each house has a one-room plan service wing located behind it.
In terms of architectural style, the cottage is Gothic. The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has two bays on the left and a single bay projecting to the right. On the left side at ground floor, there is a three-light casement with a flat stone arch, a porch featuring a four-centred arched chamfered doorway, and a Gothic door with battens beneath a pitched roof. Above, there is a two-light casement in a gabled dormer. The projecting bay on the right has a canted bay with casements at ground floor and a three-light chamfered granite casement above, also with a flat stone arch. There is a similar doorway to the right of this bay. The right side of the cottage has a single light at ground floor and a two-light casement with a hood mould at first floor. The left side features an external stack.
At the rear, each house has a two-storey service wing. The left wing has a door and a two-light casement at ground floor, with another two-light casement at first floor. The right wing includes a door in an open-fronted porch, a single light, and a two-light casement at first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
