Description

The bathing house at Pentillie Quay, built around 1850, incorporates features from the 17th century. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with granite dressings and has a tiled roof featuring scalloped banding, crested ridge tiles, and gable ends topped with spike finials. A rear lateral stack serves the building. The quay itself is made of slatestone rubble.

This single-storey bathing house has a rectangular plan and is situated on a quay that extends into the river. The main room is heated from the rear stack. The exterior presents a symmetrical front with a central gabled porch supported by plain chamfered granite piers. The porch features an inner granite doorway with a 4-centred arch, which is chamfered and stopped, and has a studded door. On either side of the porch are small 2-light granite windows with casements, and above them is a gabled dormer. All gables are adorned with spike finials.

The left gable end has a 3-light granite window with diamond leaded lights and chamfered granite mullions, while the right gable end features a large 4-light window with chamfered granite mullions and leaded lights, along with external sliding shutters. There is also a small single light window with a triangular head in the gable. The rear of the building has an external stack with a brick shaft.

Inside, the bathing house has a 5-bay roof supported by principal rafters, collars, and braces, with trefoils in the spandrels. The interior includes a wooden frieze with quatrefoils and dado panelling, as well as a granite fireplace with a flat arch and roll moulding. The quay has a rectangular plan and is characterized by battered slatestone rubble walls.
